The hyperuricemia known as Gout develops as a debilitating condition assembling arthritis with accumulation of uric acid crystals in the body?s joints. Over the past 20 years the incidence has doubled also accompanied by another debilitating condition called obesity. Gout is an inflammatory disease occurring especially in men over the age of 50 in countries with an unhealthy diet like Western Europe and the USA. A starches based diet seems to prevent the appearance of Gout in many countries.

Patients suffering from degenerative osteoarthritis complain of joint swelling, pains and high levels of blood uric acid. These patients usually think they suffer from Gout. The suspicion of Gout exists when a body-joint suddenly becomes inflamed, red and painful, but certain diagnose can only be established after several investigations like finding uric acid crystals and evaluating samples under the microscope.

The accumulation of uric acid crystals occurs because the kidneys cannot eliminate it successfully or because the body produces uric acid in excess. The most common cause is a high intake of the precursors found in food and called purines. Purinic bases are mainly contained in fish, meat, animal muscles, poultry and seafood. Vegetables containing purines do not contribute to the apparition of gout and also moderate consume of the mentioned food cannot trigger hyperuricemia. Alcohol products are also known to stimulate the accumulation of uric acid in the joints.

Gout can be triggered by high amounts of released body fats during diets as the uric acid is stimulated to crystallize and deposit into the joints. Although the risk of developing Gout in these cases is relatively small, physicians recommend the administration of an anti-gout medication with 0.5 mg Colchicines daily for about six months during the weight loss diet.

More cases of hyperuricemia have developed after a low-carbohydrates diet was recommended, that is known to contain high amounts of purines. Like the foods rich in proteins, these kinds of food determine a rapid loss of weight and trigger an increase of the uric acid levels in the blood. The caused stress will raise the seric uric acid as well.

An early treatment of Gout increases the chances of a rapid recovery. The primer Gout medication is based on Colchicines and also the less preferred NSAIDs due to their side-effects. Patients with high levels of uric acid in their blood can be treated with Allopurinol, but persons with normal uric acid can also suffer acute attacks of Gout. High levels of seric uric acid without a chronic arthritis will not require permanent medication but a good food diet would be helpful.

Gout diets recommend avoiding muscle food and high protein vegetables like beans, peas and lentils. Persons with high accumulated amounts of uric acid in their tissues require a longer period of treatment.

The medical condition known by most of the people as Gout is actually hyperuricemia, a disease occurring due to an increase of the uric acid blood level. It tends to appear more often in men at the age of 50 and over when uric acid crystals form irritating accumulations in joints all over the body. The uric acid deposits assemble a bump or a growth and firstly appear at the base of the big toe, in the heel, hand or knee. Ears are also susceptible to become irritated by the accumulation of urats. Main symptoms of the Gout are inflammation in the joint area and pain creating discomfort and lack of sleep.

The uric acid is in fact a waste product occurring during the breakdown of purine amino acids. In normal conditions, uric acid is being dissolved in the blood and eliminated by the kidneys. When kidneys fail to do their job or the amount of destroyed purine is very high, uric acid crystals accumulate and lead to the apparition of Gout. AN administration of water-soluble potassium product would create a balance in the amino acid metabolism and resolve the problems.

In order to prevent the occurrence of Gout in yourself, try to avoid food and products with high content of purinic bases like organ meats and yeast laden, sardines, broths, herring, mushrooms, fish, lentils, oat meals and spinach. High levels of amino acids are also contained in peas, beans and beer.

Recent studies on beer consumers have shown the real threat is represents in the development of Gout. Its alcohol content increases the level of uric acid in the blood and the fermented yeast doubles the actual danger for hyperuricemia. A clinical study on rheumatism patients showed a 41% of gout sufferers consuming more than 12 ounce of beer every day compared to only 17% in the control group with healthy subjects.

Those who want to try avoiding this gout condition must known what they should eat to prevent or treat it. A daily consume of fresh or canned cherries can really help you get rid of Gout. According to a clinical study in a group of gout sufferers, the daily use of half pound fresh or canned cherries returned the disturbed uric acid levels in the blood back to normal in just a few days. No further attacks of Gout were registered in these patients. Also helpful was proved to be cherry juice.

The scientific explanation is the cherries content in calcium, phosphorus and especially the 191 mg potassium content for every 100 mg sodium. Potassium keeps a healthy balance of the uric acid in our blood and prevents the crystallization in our joints. Cherries are also benefic for the high levels of malic acid, able to neutralize both uric and lactic acid.

A daily cure with strawberries, blueberries or hawthorn berries are considered to be helpful in getting rid of gout as well.

High levels of uric acid in the body will form crystals in the joints, and the result will be pain and inflammation. In fact, this is a type of arthritis, which is named gout. Foods that contain high quantities of protein and purines were thought that raise the risk of developing gout.

There were made studies, to see what foods influence most the apparition of gout. It was revealed that persons that eat a lot of meat have a higher probability of developing gout than those who do not eat so much meat. Also the ones who consume most seafood have a higher risk to develop gout. Although it was thought that purine- rich foods increase the risk of gout, studies revealed that it is not always like that, not all the purine- rich foods raise the risk of developing gout. For example, it was proved that a diet containing cauliflower, beans, peas, spinach and mushrooms does not increase the risk of gout. In stead, it was discovered that low-fat diary products decrease the risk of gout and generally protein intake had no effect.

Consuming a lot of seafood is recommended for a healthy heart, but in the same time, a lot of seafood may raise the risk of developing gout. So, it is hard to say what is best to do, you must analyze the benefits and the consequences, there isn?t a generally available situation. Doctor?s decisions will be individualized, depending on each person.

High uric acid levels in the blood can be found in obese people. It is important that they consult the doctor and decide on a reasonable weight-loss program, because an improper diet may cause the uric acid levels to raise, and gout will complicate. People who have kidney stones that appeared due to the uric acid will have to eliminate purine-rich foods from their diet, because it is known that foods can raise the uric acid level. Alcohol is another factor that can contribute in raising the uric acid levels, and gout can appear. In stead, tea and coffee were not found causing problems.

A wise thing that should be done is to drink daily at least 10-12 eight-ounce glasses of non-alcoholic fluids. This is recommended especially to persons that have kidney stones, to help flushing the uric acid crystals from the body.

Here are some foods that are very rich in purines: mussels, yeast, herring, hearts, smelt, sardines, sweetbreads. It is also good to know a few of the moderately high in purines foods. Some of them are: grouse, mutton, veal, bacon, salmon, turkey, kidneys, scallops, partridge, haddock and trout.

It is important for everyone to know the risk some foods can develop, and to eat moderately the ?black-listed? ones.

What Are The Common Signs Symptoms Gout Causes?

Though the crystallization of uric acid in the joints is the cause of gout, it is not something that will be obvious right away. The signs and symptoms may or may not show up for years before pain is felt. There are some signs symptoms gout sufferers might experience that might not be thought of as part of this condition right away, and are often related to a painful flare up.

Gout may not be diagnosed until flare up occurs. Many times they will show up and be confused with something else before more telling signs show, and a doctor then might know to look for gout.

When a gout flare up is about to occur, a person might have a wide range of symptoms. These are common to may different conditions, and someone with these might think they are getting the flu or are just feeling under the weather.

Some people have similar feelings after eating or drinking too much of the wrong things, and they may just think the feelings are a result of that. They may experience dehydration and may have had an injury in a joint area. Surgery or stress can bring about a flare up, so if someone has just experienced either, they should look for the secondary signs.

Right before the flare up occurs, a patient will notice something is going on up to twenty-four hours before the pain sets in. Having a fever is very common, and this might also come with having the chills. The chills are often a direct result of fever, as the body is too hot and the air feels cooler on the skin. The problem with this is that those symptoms can mean almost anything, and they might not be attributed to a gout flare up until a person knows that they do indeed have gout.

When someone goes to see a doctor about gout, there are specific things they will look for. Some of these things might be evident to the patient as well, but they may not know what they mean. A doctor will test for high levels of uric acid and the crystals that they form. This is a blood test. These crystals might then be located in the joints, and this is most common in the big toe. There will be tenderness around any joints that are involved, and there may be skin problems. Movement of involved joints may very well be painful.

A patient will know they are having a gout attack when they feel pain in the affected joints. This might be very severe pain that is accompanied by stiffness. The joint might feel hot to the touch and extremely tender.

When the signs symptoms gout produces appear, and it is obvious a flare up is occurring, a person should lie down and rest as much as possible. It is important to keep weight off of the joint. Ice or heat might help with the pain, and something like ibuprofen can be taken for inflammation. Once someone is sure they are experiencing a bout of gout, they should call their doctor for advice and the possibility of a prescription if needed.

To help improve the conditions of gout, one can consider trying out a low purine diet. Low purine gout diet place special emphasis on vegetable protein, dairy products, and water intake and completely abstaining from including high purine foods in the diet. Food items such as anchovies, bouillon, brains, broth, consume, dried legumes, goose, gravy, heart, herring, kidneys, liver, mackerel, meat extracts, mincemeat, mussels, partridge, roe, sardines, scallops, shrimp, sweetbreads, yeast (bakers and brewers), and yeast extracts (maramite, vegemite) need to be eliminated completely no matter how tempting and tasty these food might be from one's diet in order to prevent and treat gout.

Studies have shown that with the adoption of a low purine diet, the symptoms associated with gout decreases preventing the sudden and painful attacks of gout from occurring. Foods high in purines such as anchovies, brains, organ meats, sweetbreads, kidney, meat gravies, meat extracts, wild game, mackerel, scallops, herring, and sardines such be avoided when one is thinking of planning to have a low purine diet.

For a low purine or modified-purine diet, foods that contain only moderate amounts of purine and are allowed. Asparagus, cauliflower, legumes, lentils, mushrooms, oatmeal, peas (dried), soy, spinach, tripe, best bets, beverages (carbonated), butter, cereals and cereal products, cheese (all types), cocoa, corn, cornbread, eggs, fruit juices, fruits, gelatin, ice cream, milk, noodles, nuts, refined white flour, tapioca, vegetables (except those high in purine), white bread and crackers, and white rice are examples of food with a moderate amount of purine.

For most people who have experienced gout will usually use a purine-modified diet and avoid high purine foods in their daily diet to reduce the possibility of having more attacks of the gout. This low purine diet consists of eliminating extremely high purine foods such as liver, brains, kidney and other organ meats as well as sweetbreads.

In addition, only one serving of the following foods are allowed per day in order to avoid consuming too much purines: dried beans and peas, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms, poultry, meat or fish. In most of the prescribed treatment used today, a purine-modified diet is introduced for the treatment of gout. In a purine-modified diet, the doctor will only encourage the patients to consume some protein foods. However the patients will have to bear in mind not to exceed 100 grams of protein per day. As a rough guide, there are about 7 grams of protein in one ounce of meat and 3 grams of protein per serving of bread and grains. Studies have shown that dairy products such as milk, egg and cheese are good food choices for gout patients since they are low in purine but rice in protein. Consuming large amounts of these dairy products was found to reduce the risk of developing gout by 50%.

On top of having a correct and healthy diet, medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids and allopurinol are often prescribed by doctors together with the recommended diet to treat gout. There is no better form of treatment or prevention for gout other than drinking lots of water, eating lots of dairy products and vegetable proteins and abstaining from high purine food items.

A common cause of gout is the accumulation of a chemical called uric acid. Uric acid is a normal breakdown product of another chemical called purines. The treatment involves controlling the inflammation, which causes the pain and swelling and ultimately damage to joints. Also, lowering the uric acid level is a logical means to controlling gout.

There is some benefit to avoiding foods that cause gout but most people who get gout will need medication to prevent joint damage and also prevent future attacks which often happen sooner and are more severe. They can also cause permanent damage to the kidney and joints. The crystals can also deposit on the skin and are then called tophi.

Most of the time the symptom can be controlled by anti-inflammatory medications like naproxen or indomethacin. In severe cases steroids like prednisone may be needed. Some people even need injections into the joints. Fluid from the swollen joints can be removed and analyzed for the uric acid crystals.

The treatment includes medicines like allopurinol, which decrease the level of uric acid, or there are other medicines like colchicine, which decrease inflammation. Also there are medicines called uricosuric agents that increase the removal of uric acid in urine. Colchicine works best if taken really early in the attack and sometimes repeat does may need to be taken periodically such as every two hours or so till there is pain relief or a maximum dose is reached or there are side effects like gastrointestinal upset.

The specific dose and the manner of taking these medicines are best discussed with your healthcare provider.

Common side effects of these drugs include stomach upset and ulcers from prednisone and ibuprofen type of medications, diarrhea from colchicine and sometimes gout can get worse from allopurinol especially if the person is not on colchicine first during an acute attack.

Gout Pain Relief

Gout is caused by the increase in the amount of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is normally removed from the body through the urine, however if it is not excreted it can form crystals, which irritate body tissues like the lining of joints. This will in turn cause inflammation and pain, which is often quite severe.

The relief of pain is remarkable with some of the anti-inflammatory medicines also called NSAIDS or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. The typical example is indomethacin or ibuprofen. Applying local ice or heat may sometimes help as well as keeping the joint without moving or bumping into objects.

Colchicine is typically used if the first line medications like NSAID?s do not help but most people have relief of pain ultimately. Even if no medicines are taken the attack will subside in a few days. However if repeated attacks occur there can be lasting damage.

In some situations steroid medications like prednisone may be needed. The steroids will decrease the inflammation and decrease the chemical responses that cause pain. It is important to know that there are many side effects from all of the medications and you must discuss these with your healthcare provider.

In some gout attacks patients may need joint fluid removed for analysis and during the process can have local numbing medicines injected into the joint. These numbing medicines are also called local anesthetics. Sometimes steroids are injected into a joint to decrease the inflammation.

As with all medications make sure you do not have an allergy to them and sometimes taking the medicine with food may decrease stomach upset or gastric distress, especially medicines like steroids.

If a person is on many medications, which can cause gout, changing these may help. One common cause is diuretic medications, which decrease leg swelling or edema. Many older individuals are on these medicines and if they get a gout attack they must remember this fact.
