There is no one effective gout home treatment that can be used for everyone to cure gout. Some may need medication to treat gout while others may have to change their diet and exercise habits. Eating food that has low purine levels seems to be the gout home treatment that works for most people. This treatment helps to prevent uric acid from building up in the body and perhaps, is the most effective long-term solution for keeping the gout attacks under control.

Other types of treatment can include herbal remedies. In order to help narrow down the type of gout home treatment to use, one should first research on all the available types of treatment when a person is looking for a possible gout treatment. This will provide better knowledge on the types of gout home treatment that will work and the ones will not. It is important to consult your doctor first before starting an herbal remedy if one is on any form of medication.

Another popular form of gout home treatment is to modifying the intake of alcohol consumption. This is because consumption of alcohol causes hyperuricaemia by both an increase in urate production and a reduction in renal excretion of urate, leading to a possible acute attack of gout. Alcoholic beverages containing yeast also contain purines which are broken down to urate that must be eliminated. In addition, alcohol can contribute to obesity because it contains more kilojoules or calories than an equivalent weight of sugars and starches. In order for this kind of gout home treatment to be effective, gout patients should not consume more than one standard alcoholic drink a day which equates to 300ml of beer.

Often, body weight has increased in the late teens and twenties when vigorous physical activity and sport have been abandoned. The effect of an increase in body weight beyond the optimal is different in each patient, but in general it will result in both a reduction in the excretion of urate by the kidneys and a moderate increase in urate production. Often it is associated with a past or continuing increase in alcohol consumption. Thus, losing weight is a recommended gout home treatment who are facing obesity problems. The amount of uric acid in the body can be controlled by this gout home treatment method.

Of course, one natural home treatment of gout is through regular exercise or physical activity. Performing the proper exercises on a regular basis is a vital part of almost any arthritis treatment program. Currently, many gout patients are practicing yoga to ease the pain resulting from gout attacks. Yoga is an ancient way of bringing your physical, mental and spiritual "selves" into balance and harmony, thus achieving the highest form of health. This kind of gout home treatment usually involve assuming various sitting, standing or lying down postures called asanas. The postures are held for anywhere from seconds to minutes and are accompanied by deep breathing. The benefits of yoga for gout sufferers are plenty, which include relaxation, stress reduction, increased energy, improved circulation and many more.

Gout is a form of rheumatic disease caused by uric acid deposits in the joints and it is marked by sudden attacks of painful, inflamed joints. It is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. It is the commonest inflammatory arthritis of men above 40 years old, and it is 20 times commoner in men than women; however, the number of postmenopausal women who have gout is increasing.

Gout is a complex disorder that can affect anyone. It is one of the oldest and probably most painful diseases known to mankind, which the symptoms develop at a quick pace. Fortunately, gout is treatable, and there are ways to keep gout from recurring.

Gout is caused when a patient continuously has trouble digesting properly and waste matter from digested foods accumulates within the body, the excess uric acid then starts to crystallize and settle in the joints (especially on the feet), setting off inflammation, pain, and stiffness. Usually, the joints in the big toe are affected, but gout can also affect the instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers and elbows.

The connection between drinking alcoholic beverages and attacks of gout is a strong one for many with the disease; experts recognize that the standard goal in the treatment of chronic gout is the reduction and maintenance of sUA levels of less than 6 mg/dL.

People with high uric acid can develop lumps under the skin and they are often found in or near joints previously attacked by gout and also on the elbow, over the fingers and toes, and in the outer edge of the ear, additionally, its increasing degenerative changes may make aging joints vulnerable, with cartilage fragments acting as seeds for crystal formation. Experts say the concentration in the blood is so high that the uric acid settles in the joints of people with gout, a leading cause of gout attacks.

Eating lots of cherries and fresh cherry juice has been highly recommended in the treatment of gout and gouty arthritis, another treatment that can be included simultaneously with herbal remedies for gout is the addition of rosehip tea to the diet, joints affected by gout will recover completely once the gout has been treated.

Gout is a form of arthritis that is caused by the build-up of a substance found in the body called uric acid. This acid is used by the body to break down a common substance in many different foods known as purines.

When people suffer from gout, the uric acid that has built up in their system begins to form jagged crystal-like formations in the blood stream. It is these painful little crystals that cause the horrible swelling and pain that gout is known for. But what causes the uric acid build up and how do you know if you?re having a gout attack?

The causes of gout attacks can be attributed to many different things. Foods high in purines are a common culprit. Things like salmon, seafood and alcohol. Also, offal meats (parts of animals we eat other than muscle, like liver and kidney?s) are suspected of causing gout because of their high purine content.

For reasons unknown to doctors, about 75% of gout sufferers? first start to feel an attack in the joint of the big toe. Other likely joints that might signal a gout attack are the ankle, knee or elbow.

The pain associated with gout comes from two different sources. There is the sharp, stabbing pain caused by the crystals that get caught in the toe joint, as well as the pain caused by the swelling and inflammation of the tissues around the joint.

Gout has four stages that a sufferer could end up going through if the condition is left untreated. The first is asymptomatic, which simply features rising levels of the sinister uric acid rising in the blood stream, but before any symptoms manifest.

The second is acute gout, which features a person?s first gout attack, most of which go away quickly and there isn?t a frequent reoccurrence. Remember, the sooner you get treatment, the sooner the pain will go away. The average case of gout lasts only a day or two with proper care.

The third stage of gout is intercritical, which is just the symptom-free time between attacks, and the fourth and final stage of gout is the chronic stage. Chronic gout is made up of multiple bouts of the disease and the gout attacking more than one joint at once.

If gout isn?t treated properly, serious health problems can arise, such as kidney damage and the formation of kidney stones, as well as hypertension (high blood pressure).

While there is no ?cure? for gout in the traditional sense, since the disease can return anytime there is an imbalance in your body?s uric acid levels, there are many different treatments and you can effectively eliminate the risk of gout through natural means.

Most doctors prescribe a change in diet from foods high in purine to foods that help the body absorb excess uric acid in the blood stream. Most berries and fruit are great at absorbing uric acid, whereas foods high in protein, such as chicken or even tofu should not be eaten at all during a flare up since it is believed those foods make matters worse.

In conclusion, even though gout is associated with a period in history long gone when knights on horseback were busy saving fair maidens, it is very much an ailment of today?s world. But with the proper diet and early diagnosis, the horrible pain of gout can be controlled.

Gouty Arthritis Explained

Gouty arthritis, or simply gout, has left a long and tortured legacy through history of pain and suffering. If treated promptly and correctly, gout is a one-time thing for many sufferers, but it hasn?t always been that way.

The first ever recorded cases of gouty arthritis go back to ancient Egypt in the year 2640 B.C. Later, it was Hippocrates who wrote of an ailment he called podagra, or as it was known at that time, ?the un-walkable disease.? The commonly held belief during that time was that bodily health was dictated by the four ?humors?. It was believed that as long as the four humors were in balance with each other, proper health was maintained. When someone suffered from ?the un-walkable disease,? it was thought that one of the humors had dropped into the infected joint and that was what caused the swelling and inflammation.

Since the first reported cases of gouty arthritis, the disease has been associated with the wealthy. During the middle ages, the ailment was given the tag ?the disease of kings? because of its association with alcohol and rich foods.

Treatment for gouty arthritis has evolved over time, as well. The use of colchicine, which is still sometimes prescribed today to cure gout, was used over two millennia ago in ancient Greece, but just for general health purposes. The first sign that this compound was used specifically for gout was in the sixth century.

Today, gout is usually treated by prescribing chemical or natural substances that remove the uric acid from the body as quickly as possible. The first evidence that this method of treating gout was used was towards the end of the 19th century.

There are, however, many all natural and common sense treatments for gout that don?t involve taking any pills at all. A combination of diet control and small lifestyle changes can keep you gout free for life.

A good first step is to lose weight. The additional stress that your joints experience makes them more vulnerable to gouty arthritis. Also, losing weight is a way to naturally lower the amount of uric acid your body retains. The less you retain, the less likely you will develop gout.

Adjusting your diet so that you eat less than six ounces of lean meat a day can help keep gout away, as well. The more animal protein in your blood steam, the higher the chances are of you developing gout. You don?t have to give up chicken, fish or lean meat, but in this case, enjoying a little less can benefit you.

The evils of alcohol again rear their ugly head. The consumption of alcohol can limit the amount of uric acid the body disposes of. If you?re a guy, limit your alcohol to two drinks a day, and if you?re a woman, keep it at one. If you have acute gout, don?t touch the booze at all.

Believe it or not, but simply drinking an extra glass of water a day can help keep you gout-free. The more water you drink, the more uric acid gets flushed out of your system.

The devilish disease known as gout has been with us since day one, and even with all the common sense precautions in the world, it will most likely be here until we?re all gone. But with a few small changes in your lifestyle, you can keep the Disease of Kings in permanent exile.
